2011 musical list.

the following is a list of my favourite songs from 2011 in no particular order. please note that these are just songs that i loved the most in 2011 - they were not all released in 2011 (ex. third eye blind - don't judge me).

song/artist

heartbeat - islands
my boyfriend is going to kill me if he hears this one more time, i just can't control it.

slow - twin shadow
sometimes i think the 80's were so lame (fashion) but then other times i completely understand and adore the influence.

the start of something - voxtrot
"don't call me boring it's just cause i like you". awwww.

still - great lake swimmers
"i am still a fire unlight ready to go". me too man, me too.

shed your love - the helio sequence
"on a subway train before the dawn, the ride was short but my thoughts were long"

leaving your death in a flowerbed - attack in black
perhaps it is because i have a huge crush on daniel or perhaps this is just a really great song.

i need a dollar - aloe blacc
not only the best opening song of an addictive tv series (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0hor1YHXeU) that was cancelled (wtf? seriously, the bachelor has had how many seasons and how to make it america gets 2, 2! what does that tell you about our society?) but what a cool guy. i would give him more than a dollar to share his stories with me.

radar detector - darwin deez
you know when you are sick of all your music and you just need a new picker upper to join you through your daily routine, something upbeat and inspiring? this is that song for me. listened to this one wayyyyyy too many times in 2011. still do. think it might be a problem...

where the sparrows drop - one hundred dollars
i just love simone's voice in this song, so pretty, so twangy, so good.

dog days are over - florence and the machine
she may not be a real redhead, but the girl can sing.

my mistakes - eleanor friedberger
great summer tune.

can i graduate - third eye blind
we discovered this tape at a friends cottage last summer and it was only then that i realized how sad the lyrics are. the music was so upbeat it took away from the drug addiction reality. regardless we blared it while boating around the lake, feeling like the teenagers we once were.

brothers - war on drugs
nothing quite like a cross between bob dylan and tom petty.

low road - grace potter and the nocturnals
something about this woman just makes me smile.
